A estomatina, tamén chamada proteína integral de membrana do eritrocito humano banda 7 é unha proteína que está codificada en humanos no xene STOM do cromosoma 9.[1][2]
Importancia clínica[editar | editar a fonte]
A estomatina é unha proteína integral de membrana de 31 kDa que recibiu o seu nome pola rara anemia hemolítica humana hereditria chamada estomatocitose, coa cal se relacionou, aínda que en ratos knockout para esta proteína non se atopou que houbese esta relación.[3] Este xene codifica un membro dunha familia altamente conservada de proteínas integrais de membrana. A proteína codificada localízase na membrana celular dos eritrocitos e outros tipos de células, onde pode regular canles iónicas e transportadores. Existen variantes de empalme desta proteína e un pseudoxene do seu xene no cromosoma 6.[2] Pode ser fosforilada por unha proteína quinase dependente do AMPc.[4]

Malia que a ampla distribución da estomatina e a súa expresión constitutiva suxire un importante papel para esta proteína na bioloxía celular, onde quizais é un compoñente de "mantemento" (“house-keeping”), a súa función exacta está aínda sen determinar. A presenza masiva da estomatina en pregamentos de membrana que fan protrusión e extensións suxire un posible papel estrutural na formación destas estruturas ou no ancoraxe da actina do citoesqueleto. Tamén se suxeriu que regula o transporte na membrana.[5][2]
